What Is The Wokingham Walk?

The Wokingham Walk is a charity walk designed for people of all ages and abilities.

Unlike a race, the focus here is on enjoying the journey, whether it’s a gentle stroll around south Wokingham or a longer walk that climbs to the ridge for panoramic views.

The event is a fantastic way to support the community, with volunteers lining the paths, families taking part, and local clubs joining in.

Walkers can choose from 3 routes: 5 miles, 10 and 15, or the full 15 mile distance.

Along the way, paths cross parks, trails, and quiet roads, taking in landmarks such as Ambarrow Court, Elm's Field, and Wellington College.

Most routes are beginner-friendly, though the longer trails offer a satisfying challenge for those wanting a full 15 mile charity walk.

Even a short walk is more enjoyable if you prepare.

Start with regular shorter walks and gradually increase your distance.

Wear shoes suitable for mixed terrain, and dress in layers for the unpredictable spring weather.

Stretching before and after walking helps prevent stiffness, and training on trails similar to the route can build confidence.

Hydration and light snacks along the walk are important too, especially if you’re tackling the longer 10 or 15 mile routes.
